Hard Boiled Eggs From Monday to Friday

By //  by Candace Sampson Leave a Comment

October 11th is World Egg Day, the day we celebrate the humble egg and the farmers who get them to our table. In 2018, Canadian Farmers produced an astounding 752 million dozen eggs! I haven't done an "official" count but I'm confident at least a million of those eggs have been consumed in my house. With certainty I can at the very least say I hard boil 624 eggs a year. Sunday in my house is all about meal-prep. With a little planning I have lunches from Monday to Friday down pat, and I …

Tomato Bacon Gruyere Tart with Maple Leaf Foods

By //  by Candace Sampson 41 Comments

There is no better time of year for me than tomato season, and nothing pairs better with tomatoes than bacon. Bacon and tomato sandwiches, pasta with bacon and tomatoes, bacon and tomato frittatas, and this Tomato Bacon Gruyere Tart are on regular rotation in my house every September. Bacon, by the way,  is in rotation year round, and it's always been Maple Leaf, because as a self-described bacon snob, it's simply the best.  I recently had the pleasure of meeting with Michael …

For years, I packed lunches for my kids stressing about whether I was hitting all the nutritional high notes. Then, as the kids matured, I handed the task over to them, and all balance immediately went out the window. I watched in horror as lunch went from mixed green salads, with two fruits and a wholesome snack to …

Mouthwatering Vegetarian Pizza Even Picky Eaters Will Love

By //  by Life In Pleasantville Leave a Comment

When my fridge is full of bits; various kinds of cheese, vegetables or meats, I make pizza. There's something about the smell of yeast, kneading dough, and then topping it that just makes life...better. Especially on a Friday, when the evening is a bit lazy and a weekend stretches out before us. During holidays like Spring Break is even better; it's a perfect project to get the kids involved, since the dough is very forgiving and kids love topping their own pizza. With one picky eater and one …

Stuck in School Lunch Hell? How to Get Back on Track

By //  by Kelly Given Williams 2 Comments

A couple weeks ago my son brought home a form reminding him (me) that the class would be celebrating the 100th day of school and that he (I) needed to collect 100 of something to show the class. When I saw the form I thought “Sweet mother, this means I have made 400 school lunches since September.” March is upon us and it is usually this time of year that my kids are getting sick of the old standby lunch options. When the Lunch Lady menu came home a few days later I took it as a sign that it was …
