Crush and Covet – What We Really Want for Valentine’s Day

by Candace Sampson

Crush: a brief but intense infatuation for someone (or something), especially someone (or something) unattainable or inappropriate.

The difference between that definition and everything crush worthy we share in our Crush and Covet section is that none of our loves are unattainable and they’ll never be inappropriate. Probably. Sometimes. Okay, there will definitely be a fair amount of inappropriateness, but appropriate belongs in the office and at baby showers, and not between friends.

Kelli Catana: “While I love the feel of a real book in my hands, I can’t deny the convenience of an e-reader, especially when travelling or when you need to get that next book in the series you’re reading RIGHT NOW! I love my Kobo (I’ve had a Glo, an Aura and an ARC!) but this new Kobo Aura H2O makes me so excited! This is the first premium waterproof e-reader guaranteed to withstand anything I can spill on it (the opportunities are really endless).”

Leslie Foster: “I am totally in love with ALL of the gorgeous handmade jewelry available from Me to We.  I don’t like Valentine’s Day, but I wouldn’t say no if someone wanted to gift me the Tutu Three Wrap leather bracelet. Give a gift that’s crafted with love—every bead and stitch of our products are handmade by mamas in Kenya, connecting you with her personal story. They also make an impact in a community overseas, improving livelihoods. Share your love this Valentine’s Day with timeless gifts that build a better world for you, your loved ones and everyone! Beautiful jewellery, handcrafted by people who benefit from the sales, giving back…what’s not to love?”

Kelly Williams: “I love Live Clean Exotic Nectar Argan Oil Leave In Conditioner for so many reasons. First, it works for my fine, thin hair leaving it silky and smooth. Second, it’s biodegradable and free of phosphates, parabens, DEAs, and phthalates, so I’m not getting harsh chemicals and it is environmentally friendly too. Third, Live Clean is a Canadian company and I love supporting our homegrown businesses. It’s awesome and I love it. That’s a lot of love.”

Katja Wulfers: “I’m all about coffee and coffee mugs and coffee accessories — Oh…that feeling when coffee first touches my lips. But we’re talking crushes, and I’ve had my eye on a travel mug knitted cozy from Etsy that sums up my goal for any given day or week, depending on how much coffee I’ve had. Kelly Williams made me one that reads We Attack At Dawn, which makes me laugh every time I use it, but I think we all need some Epic Shit in our lives, too.”

Candace Derickx: “I recently spent a weekend living the lux life, where I learned a few new things about wine and most importantly tea. Apparently I’ve been doing it all wrong and the reason my white, green and oolong teas were so bitter in the past was because I was burning them with boiling water. My bad. I’ve since corrected the problem by treating myself to this Frigidaire Professional Kettle. It has 5 programmable temperature settings. This week I’ve been enjoying my Oolong Tea without the bitter taste. Who knew? ”

About Katja Wulfers

Katja Wulfers is a writer, traveller, and gourmande.

Katja is addicted to pastries and her great-many times removed-grandfather was beheaded during the French revolution, which explains a lot. She comes from a long line of nomads who believed in the romance and adventure of travel and she’s trying to pass that on to her children. That’s not always easy when juggling the freelance writing, the kids’ sports, volunteering, and running a business. To fuel the bug, Katja writes articles about travel and culinary tourism. She also blogs at Jack Straw Lane.

Photography is one of Katja’s favourite mediums for storytelling and she’s a devoted Instagram fan. You can follow her at katjawulfers. You can also find her on Twitter at jackstrawlane.
