Sandals Montego Bay – New Look, Enduring Passion, One Love

By //  by Candace Sampson Leave a Comment

Behind every great romance is a great story and the story of Sandals Montego Bay is a classic Pygmalion narrative. Boy meets run down hotel and transforms it into one of the world’s most iconic and recognizable escapes for couples, along the way trials and tribulations threaten to diminish the passion, but the boy is steadfast in his devotion, and 38 years later, the love is not only strong, but seemingly invincible. Most people thought Butch Stewart was crazy buying a hotel that sat at the end …

A Haunting Experience in Jamaica – Rose Hall and the Legend of the White Witch

By //  by Candace Sampson Leave a Comment

Regular readers here at Life in Pleasantville will know that I’m not a scary movie kind of girl. In fact, I’m a big 'old fraidy-cat when it comes to the supernatural. When the opportunity to visit a real-life haunted house came up on a trip to Jamaica though, I simply couldn’t say no. Off I went to the Rose Hall Great House for a daytime tour of one of Jamaica’s most famous houses. If you’re more adventurous (or just less of a believer in ghosts and things that go bump in the night), there’s a …

This particular person though I did notice because in the timeline you can now see when other friends comment on other statuses, even if they're not your friends. Holy convuluted Batman, life in social media is hard, but I digress. The update …

Mayfield Falls Jamaica

By //  by Candace Sampson 11 Comments

On our last trip to Jamaica, my husband and I were looking for something different to do. On previous trips we had visited Dunn's River Falls and rafted on the Martha Brae and loved the experience. Jamaica's interior is rich with natural wonder so we knew there had to be something new to try. We decided on a day trip to Mayfield Falls. A roughly 90 minute drive from Negril, Mayfield Falls is located on a 5 acre lot in Glenbrook, Jamaica. There are two operators on either side of the …

Rick’s Cafe Jamaica – Iconic Tourist Trap

By //  by Candace Sampson 3 Comments

If you've never been to Jamaica, at the very least you are familiar with a few of it's gifts that are uniquely their own. Simply mention Jerk, Red Stripe, Reggae, Blue Mountain Coffee, or  Bob Marley  and people are whistling Three Little Birds and looking for their swimsuit. And chances are that long before they even booked their first trip they heard about the iconic Rick's Cafe in Negril, Jamaica. Rick's Cafe was founded in 1974 when Negril was little more than a sleepy …
