Turkey Burgers

by Candace Sampson

I love beef. When I was pregnant with my second child, I loved it so much that I would drool driving by the cows in the field. Like all good things though, you’re only supposed to have red meat in small quantities, which in my humble opinion is just cosmically wrong. In order to reduce the amount of red meat we were eating, I decided that beef burgers were no longer an option. Honestly, was I going to give up my weekly allowance on ground beef?

I searched high and low for alternatives. Then I tripped on this incredibly easy recipe for turkey burgers on AllRecipes. At first, I thought, “No way, it’s too easy.” But sometimes the simplest recipe is the one that knocks your socks off. This recipe was such a huge hit last summer, that we didn’t once have a beef burger. My husband has declared that he’d never make one again. Take it from me, if Grizzly Adams says he’s done with beef burgers, they’re good.

Turkey Burgers

3 pounds ground turkey
1/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/4 cup finely diced onion
2 egg whites, lightly beaten
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

In a large bowl, mix ground turkey, seasoned bread crumbs, onion, egg whites, parsley, garlic, salt, and pepper. Form into 12 patties. Cook the patties on the BBQ over medium-high heat to an internal temperature of 180 degrees F (85 degrees C).

Pleasantville Note: These burgers freeze beautifully, so double, or even triple the recipe if necessary. Wrap individually and freeze. Cook from frozen on the grill. Voila. Burgers at your fingertips all summer.

Thank Gawd! I’ve been trying turkey burger recipes because my hubby and I are relaxing on the red meat…and I’m sad and can’t find a turkey burger i like as much.

I’m gonna try it this weekend.

I love turkey burgers! Prefer them over beef. This is because I’m addicted to turkey so thank you for a new burger recipe to try. 🙂

I find turkey is far moister (is moister even a word? If it is, it’s a gross word) than beef. Yum.

Yeah, moister is kind of gross. Let’s say tastier 🙂

We did the same with ground chicken the other night and OMG they were good.  Will try the turkey and compare.

I’m sure chicken would be quite good as well! Will have to try myself.

We often add some black beans (mashed or pureed) to the turkey burgers too.
