Cirque’s VOLTA Is An Exhilarating Treat For All

By //  by Jenn Perry Leave a Comment

IIn Canada, and across the globe, Cirque du Soleil is a name known for incredible acrobatics, beautiful costumes and enticing storylines. I've had the opportunity to see a couple of their live shows over the years, so I of course jumped at the opportunity to attend the opening night performance of their new show VOLTA, playing in the Capital region for the month of August. When we arrived at the Zibi site in Gatineau, QC (over the Portage Bridge from Ottawa), the massive circus tent was …

Lessons for Life and Catholic Education in Ontario; Why We’re Thankful for Our Kids’ Teachers

By //  by Candace Sampson Leave a Comment

As a child, I grew up across the street from two schools that were separated only by a public pool; one Catholic and one public. As Catholics (but far from practicing), the decision as to what school I would attend was easy for my parents. And so it was, that for eight years I would wait until the morning’s last bell to race out the door and get to school. I always looked fondly back on my time at St. Francis. In my head, I felt certain that part of what I loved about attending it was the …

Why My Daughter is Acing Compassionate Math and Fair Science

As I write this, she put her back out two days ago, simply walking down the hall at school. Needless, to say, I am stressed to the max about her health, and the impact this is going to have on her long term.  The …

Avoid A Financial Hangover this Season

By //  by Judith Cane Leave a Comment

Oh, holiday season, how we love you. We love the noise, the crowds, the children’s smiles, the shopping. We love it all, and it almost seems that for one short period every year we can spend without worry. Now is the time to be happy, to give happiness—which often involves spending—gift wrap, party, and celebrate the season. We'll worry about the financial issues next month.  Does this Sound Familiar While we're busily distracted by pretty lights, too many of us can get caught up in …
