Crush and Covet: Mutts, Farm Tables & Music

by Candace Sampson

We’re nothing if not a covetous bunch around here, but we’re mostly reasonable about it. You don’t see us asking for private jets to take us around the world, or a cure for wrinkles, or access to cheese that doesn’t cost the same as a small mortgage payment. What we like to share is attainable for a lot of us. So, which ones of these makes your list this week?

Laureen Farnam – I don’t know how I’ve lived my life this long without knowing about The Purple Store. If I write a note I use a purple pen. If I send a school form back, it’s filled in with purple ink. My sneakers have purple laces. True story. Peady Post? Always written with my pen of positive purple power. It’s my thing. I am a February baby and an amethyst loving Aquarian through and through. Imagine my joy at discovering there is a single place where pretty much any purple thing you could possibly want exists. From purple pens to beautiful jewelry to that to-die-for Le Creuset Dutch Oven, The Purple Store has it. Purple. Perpetually!

Kelly Williams – I have the best husband, who spoils me with the latest and greatest tech gadgets. For Mother’s Day he bought me a pair of Shadow Wireless Earphones from Sol Republic. They are light, comfortable, and best of all, there’s no long wire to get caught on anything and rip the earphones from your ears. There is a mic built into the slim collar along with the controls you need to access and navigate through your audiobooks, podcasts, and music. Like I said, I’m spoiled (and I like it).

Robin Edwards – I love wearing cropped pants in the summer – mostly because they are so versatile. Pair them with flip flops for a super casual look, some sneakers for a sporty look, platform wedges for a sexy look, and strappy heels for a dressy look! I am crushing on these Banana Republic Avalon floral jacquard crops in graphic black and white because the possibilities are endless. I appreciate being able to stretch out a piece of clothing to its maximum potential, and these are a definite favourite. You can wear more black – or white – on top in the form of a strappy tank or loose fitting t-shirt, or add a pop of colour with a bright red or coral blouse. Use these crops as your starting point and have fun mixing and matching – or unmatching!

Kelli Catana – We moved just under a year ago to a very different sort of neighborhood (and country) than we lived in before. Think lakes and deer and log homes, and I have been meaning to buy a new kitchen table for our family of six ever since. Unfortunately I just haven’t been able to find the one I wanted that suited the decor of our home. That search is now over after having discovered the Pottery Barn Reclaimed Wood Dining Table. I love that it can extend because with 6 people in our family we need the room, especially if any of the kids invite someone over. I am crushing so hard on this table I have vowed to my husband that no matter how long I have to save for it, this is the table we will be buying next. Isn’t it so gorgeous?!

Katja Wulfers – I want a dog. A hiking buddy. Someone who will listen when I’m ranting because the kids left Popsicle wrappers stuck to the ottoman AGAIN and there’s no chocolate in the house, or when I stumble into the washroom in the middle of the night and someone forgot to change the empty toilet paper roll. I had that and I miss it. I want a dog with such an obsessive, covetous (potentially unhealthy) desire that I’m driving everyone around me nuts. Ask around. It’s true. Anyway, this weekend there’s a pet adoption expo in Toronto and if you’re in the area and are seriously looking to adopt, you should go there. There are so many great adoption organizations around — Mighty Mutts and The Dog Rescuers are two I’ve heard great things about — and there’s no shortage of dogs looking to find loving homes. I’ll be getting my daughter ready for her horse show this weekend, so I’ll have to live vicariously through you all. Send me pics of your new friend.
