Christmas at Fort Wilderness

by Candace Sampson

A couple of days before we headed out on our Christmas vacation, we had an awesome idea. Like, a truly awesome idea. I can not stress enough the magnitude of this really AWESOME idea. We decided that we would bring our Christmas inflatable to put outside our RV at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Oh, won’t we look so smart that we brought that along, we thought. My husband and I patted each other on the back for thinking of it. The girls thought they had the coolest parents ever! We thought of bringing our second but didn’t want to make the other RV’ers uncomfortable in the midst of such coolness. We held back.

Witness the genius!

Then we went for a walk around the campground and suddenly our awesome idea, was just sort of mediocre. You see, there are people who spend every Christmas at Fort Wilderness. I can’t blame them, it’s perfection. Back on point though, they are there every year and go all out with their decorating. I’m talking huge outdoor Christmas screens playing, what else, Disney movies. Then there’s the inflatables. Tons and tons of inflatables. Christmas lights galore and some of it is sychronized to music. It’s so incredibly fun that you would almost think Disney is behind it. But they’re not.

All the decorations around the campground are brought in by campers and put up of their own accord. It’s magical and unless you’re a total Scrooge, you can’t help but grin from ear to ear as you walk around the loops taking it all in.

While we were caught off guard this year, being newbies and all to the Disney Christmas experience, you can be sure I’ll be bringing it the next time we go. Now to start looking for a fake snow machine.
