Snowmen Kisses

by Candace Sampson

Okay, they’re not really Snowmen Kisses, it’s meringue, but we’re going with a theme here, so stick with me. Meringue has to be one of the cheapest, easiest and most delicious baked goods you can make. It also makes a great gift during the holidays.

Snowmen Kisses

5 large egg whites
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1/2 tsp vanilla

Line two large sheet pans with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees F. In an electric mixer beat egg whites and cream of tartar for 30 seconds over high speed. Gradually add in the sugar and vanilla. Beat until meringue holds stiff, glossy peaks. Fill a pastry bag fitted with a star point of whatever you desire, with meringue. Pipe two inch kisses onto the baking sheet. Refill bag as necessary. Bake cookies rotating halfway through until crisp but now brown about 75 minutes. I like to shut my oven off and leave them in there for an additional 1/2 hour. Let meringues cool completely before storing in an an air tight container for up to one week.

You can get creative here and add peppermint extract instead of vanilla if you’d like. Also, you can paint two stripes of food colouring in the pastry bag (red and green perhaps) to the kisses some holiday colour.

Packaged and ready to give.
