Pleasantville Candied Popcorn

by Candace Sampson

ALERT! ALERT! This popcorn is ridiculously addictive. It’s also PINK!!! Hooray for pink popcorn, because it’s great for baby showers, princess parties, pink-themed parties, and sleepovers.

Pleasantville Candied Popcorn

2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup water
Red & yellow food colouring
2 tbsp butter
1 package microwave popcorn

In a wide, heavy-bottomed saucepan, stir sugar with water. Add 10 drops red and 4 drops yellow food colouring and butter. Set over medium heat. Stir constantly until mixture boils, 3 to 6 minutes. Then boil, without stirring, 5 more minutes. Meanwhile, pop popcorn following package instructions and leave in bag.

When sugar mixture has boiled for 5 minutes, remove pan from heat and swirl pan a few times. Open popcorn and turn into a very large, wide bowl. Very carefully, pour sugar mixture overtop. Using a spatula, immediately stir to evenly mix. Tumble popcorn onto a baking sheet. Cool before eating. Eat same day.
