Quick! How many of these phrases have you used in everyday conversation?
“We’re not in Kansas anymore Toto.”
“There’s no place like home.”
“Ding Dong. The witch is dead.”
And of course, “Follow The Yellow Brick Road”
I can’t count how many times I’ve uttered these iconic phrases over the years. What I can say with certainty is that every single scene from The Wizard of Oz is etched into my brain forever. For the record, I’m still not entirely sure I’m over the flying monkeys. *shiver*
The Wizard of Oz is not only one of the most loved movies of all times but also the most popular movie of all time. You can read about the psychology behind that here, but without getting too cerebral about it, I like to think it’s because it brings out all the feels. Love, family, loyalty, and friendship are what makes us human and The Wizard of Oz touches on all these and more. And as if that weren’t enough, it has some of the catchiest show tunes around.
I could while away the hours, conferrin’ with the flowers
Consultin’ with the rain.
And my head I’d be scratchin’ while
my thoughts were busy hatchin’
If I only had a brain.
Tapping your toes yet?
I think the only thing better than watching The Wizard of Oz on television is seeing it live on stage.
We like to give our kids experiences at Christmas rather than another thing that will end up in a landfill. The Wizard of Oz is coming to Ottawa and it’s the perfect gift for kids of all ages. It’s a great way to create memories and maybe even introduce your kids to The Wizard of Oz for the first time. This production includes all the amazing songs you know and love but also a few new songs you’ll no doubt be singing along to long after the curtains close. Written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber you just know these songs are going to be classics. As with all Broadway Across Canada productions, I expect this show to sell out fast, so get your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
