Yesterday, I shared my favourite Top Ten Movies Set in NYC. Today I’m sharing my favourite TV Shows, because although movies made a big impression with me about New York, it was the TV shows that really sucked me in. From the classic “doink doink” from the Law & Order opening to The Jeffersons opening song (yes, I know every word) to the classic Friends show that had me glued to my set every Thursday night, these shows helped me fall in love with NYC long before I got to visit it. Less than a week until I visit NYC for Blogher 12 now! I wonder if I can get some of the girls to take a photo at the iconic Pulitzer Fountain from Friends.
Law & Order
Fame
Sex and The City
The Jeffersons
The Cosby Show
Friends
Mad About You
Taxi
Will & Grace
Mad Men
I love love love Mad About You. I just watched the whole series again on Netflix (I had lots of time to kill when I broke my toe) and it holds up so well. Love it.
And of course, a huge fan of Fame 🙂
I have never been to New York, but I’m convinced I could just move there and live happily ever after.
Mad About You is one of those shows that I didn’t watch regularly. I’m not sure why, as I loved both the show/concept and the actors. I never watched Mad Men. I’d like to because of the buzz but eh. I feel like I’ve missed the boat like with Lost. Once it was into season 2 or 3 I saw no point in going backwards (although, yes, I did go backwards for 24. I DID!). I can say verbatim nearly every Cosby Show episode (helps that my girls love it and watch it now on Nick at Nite or TV Land). And the Jeffersons. When Sherman Hemsley died this week, a friend and I sat on the phone for 2 hours dissecting episodes from memory. Weird, yes, but also immensely fun and funny.
When Sex and the City ended the screen was black for nearly 10 seconds. I just sat staring like what do I do now. My husband came along and said I’m sorry for your loss.
When I travelled to NYC with a friend we did the SATC bus tour – LOVED it! Would highly recommend it if you were/are a fan of the show. http://www.screentours.com/tour.php/satc/
