By //  by Katja Wulfers 10 Comments

I've had it with every holiday being about kids, or kids and presents, or decorating for kids. I’m the happy mother of two kids whom I love and I spend a good percentage of my time doing things for them or with them. I wouldn’t have it any other way. But HOLY SHIT! Can one day be about adults or adults who happen to be parents? I’m not a great fan of Valentine’s Day as an enforced day of romance, but even that’s lost to us. Why is every holiday about kids? Our children already have …

Okay, maybe not entirely unknown if you’re visiting a friend or your ancestral home, but at the very least you are out of your house. These visits can range in length from a weekend away to a few weeks overseas and are a welcome break. If you play your cards right, don’t act like Goldilocks eating everyone else’s porridge and breaking furniture, and learn how to be …

How To Be A Good Host

By //  by Katja Wulfers 8 Comments

The holidays are finally here, or the long weekend. Either way, it’s time for slow mornings and celebrations and time to reconnect with family and friends. It’s also the time when we welcome visits from those who live far enough away to warrant staying overnight. I grew up in a home with an open door policy for visitors, so I have one too and since my family lives in France, the stays usually last several weeks. There were visits that I rocked as a host and other times I failed in my duties, but …
