Proud to Be Canadian #ProudToBeCDN

proud to be canadian

It’s no secret that I’m not really a fan of winter or hockey which is why is makes it odd that I do indeed love the Winter Olympics and watching Olympic Hockey. I’ve pondered this anomaly many times and I’ve determined it’s because I’m proud to be Canadian and what better way to feel patriotic pride than to cheer your country on while it competes on a world stage.

proud to be canadian

During the last Winter Olympics in 2010, I remember watching the final game between Team Canada and Team USA with white knuckles. I screamed at the TV so loud I lost my voice. When the game went into overtime, instead of my usual lament about the time suck, my stomach reeled with anticipation. What was happening on the screen was magic and even Hollywood couldn’t recreate this moment quite as well. Classic rivalry between two friends, deep patriotic pride from both sides cheering them on and players all at the top of their game. It was just perfect.

And then I cried.

Honestly, I didn’t even recognize myself at that moment. Me, who has to be bribed to join my husband at a hockey game. Me, who is thrilled I have daughters in cheerleading and not at the rink. Me, who barely understands the rules of the game. I was crying tears of joy and pride. That moment when Sydney Crosby glided across the ice with that triumphant smile just sent my heart soaring.

Canadians are awesome. We’re just so flippin’ awesome and what better time to puff out your chest and say it loud and proud than during the Winter Olympics.

I love how the Winter Olympics bind Canadians together unlike anything else can. Politics get thrown aside, geographic pride gets tossed too. For 16 days we are united by a common thread. I love watching people proudly wearing their red and white. Seeing them hug total strangers when we win a medal. Watching the comforting of one another when we suffer a loss. And I love our sponsors. I truly do. Without them, the amazing young men and women who go out and represent us so well could not compete. That’s why when Yoplait asked me to share this amazing prize pack with you I didn’t hesitate.

Yoplait is a proud supporter of Team Canada! Our favourite Yoplait brands like Yoplait Source® and Yoplait Minigo® are ready to cheer on Team Canada with you! In order to do so you should be decked out in your best red and white Olympic gear of course. You could win this amazing prize pack courtesy of Yoplait. You can enter to win this scarf, hat, mitts and backpack until January 12, 2014 at 12 am. I hope you’ll be cheering Team Canada on with me from February 7, 2014 to February 23, 2014, it promises to be an exhilarating ride!

COOL! I just tweeted this morning about what a HUGE fan I am of the Olympics & Paralympics. Everything comes to a full stop in my life while the Games are on, so I don’t miss a single second. People know not to call me either! I was a Blue Jacket in 2010. I served as an athletes’ marshall. I had the time of my life!
