We’re getting set for cooler temperatures and the holidays and bone-numbing cold and ohmahgod how do we stop it from happening? Barring an escape to a tropical island we’ll be over here shopping for warm clothes and meditating to avoid looking at the ice forming on our eavestroughs.
Candace Derickx – Look, no one ever said Crush and Covet had to be filled with practical stuff. Just one look at this Pumpkin Covered Pie Dish from Williams-Sonoma and I know I’d only use it once a year and that I’d struggle to find a place to store it for the other 364 days but the heart wants what the heart wants. Look how pretty it is! Practical be damned. Related: There’s a good chance you might find this item on the 2015 Hater’s Guide to Williams-Sonoma.
Kelly Williams – For years I went without a good pair of rain boots. I’m not sure why really, but I think it had something to do with denial, like if I didn’t have rain boots maybe I wouldn’t have to go out in the rain. Last year, I made peace with Mother Nature and purchased these beauties from Sperry. I love them not only because they keep my tootsies warm and dry, but also because the price is excellent compared to other brand name boots.
Dee Brun – Mala beads were originally used to aid with meditation and a lot of thought went into making these pieces of jewellery from Tiny Devotions to stay true to that. We choose the piece based on the answers to a few questions, so choose wisely. I LUV these Mala beads and will ask Santa for one, or two, or five.
Laureen Farnam – I am not a fan of socks, but when the sun is shining – even well into the Fall (and the chill that comes with it) – you will find me and my Hobbit feet in my Birkenstocks. This’s why, when Freezing Feet Season starts, I get a little nervous. If I’m forced to wear socks they have to be just right and they need to have some serious magic in order to take my feet from popsicle piggies to toasty toes. I spied these socks at Marshalls and paused only a second before eating up their claims “Heat Keepers(TM) Hold up to 5x more warmth than a normal cotton sock!” and “Holds heat in for all-day warmth!” Maybe I was swayed by the use of exclamation points, too.
Katja Wulfers – I spend many many many hours in a cold, damp barn during the winter and by the time I’m ready to go home, I’m so frozen I can barely bend my stiff limbs to get into the car. This year I’m buying proper gear and I have it on good authority that battery operated clothing is the way to go. It might not be sexy, but neither is struggling to peel off four layers in a dark porta potty when it’s -20C. I found a cute(ish) jacket from CozyWinters and it’s going on my must-have list.
I’m with you Laureen. I’ve actually asked Santa to fill my stocking with er um stockings. Timberland crew socks to replace the dwindling numbers in my drawer. Damn dryer!
