Every once in a while Canadians set aside their please and thank-yous and natural reserve to shout from the rafters—or in this case, from their chests—how proud they (we) are to come from our country. We like to balance that with the reality of living in the true north, which is why this week’s crush and covet covers pretty things, amazing tech, and something to save our scaly hides as we head into three, or four, or six months of winter.
Anne Radcliffe – Right now, my camera equipment consists of single 50mm lens, and when I want to take good shots of people, I kind of have to get in their face. It makes candids more difficult, not to mention taking pictures of things that are too far away to get close to. To solve the problem I’m eyeing the Nikkor 18-105mm lens from Nikon. Beautiful, right?
Kelly Flannigan Bos – I am loving the clean and modern lines of this necklace by Horn Rim Harriet. It’s made with layered baltic birch, strung onto a stainless steel magnetic cord. It is simple, stunning, and is a “go with anything” look. Interior design team Lisa and Jerry Banman’s strong architectural aesthetic comes through on this statement necklace. It’s like wearing a representation of the idea of living simply.
Ashley MacInnis – SkinFix is made locally (to me) in Halifax, and with winter just around the corner I am so ready to stock up on goodies like the 12 Hour Miracle Ointment – new to the line this year. My dry skin is already starting to flake and become sore from cracks—especially on my hands—and the constant hand washing to avoid the nasty germs of the flu season is taking its toll. I’ve used SkinFix products before, and am excited to try this new baby as soon as I can get my dry, cracked fingers on it!
Kelli Catana – As a Canadian currently living in the United States, I wear my patriotism on my sleeve as often as I can. I have a Canada flag cover for my phone and I’ve been wearing my Blue Jays hat basically non stop, especially lately. However I’ve recently discovered Peace Collective’s Canada Collection and I’ve fallen in love with it and I want it all!
The Canada Collection features hats, tees, sweatshirts, and even jackets with the slogans ‘Canadian Built,’ ‘Home Is Canada’ and my personal favourite, ‘Canada ‘As Fuck.’ But the best part is that with every purchase you’re not only wearing your patriotism on your back, but you’re providing a week of school meals to a child in need through their affiliation with the Canadian organization Breakfast for Learning. The Peace Collective also has a Toronto Collection for those who specifically represent The Six.
I definitely know what’s going on my Christmas list this year.
Jeni Marinucci – I’m no girly girl. (Is anyone surprised?) I like my jewellery to be heavy and make a statement, and there will be no delicate golden chains or sparkly stones on this gal. I like my jewellery as I prefer my men: big, chunky, a little tough looking but still soft. That’s why I love this leather cuff from BarbaLeatherStudio on Etsy. It’s pretty and feminine without treading into Powder Puff Uber-Femme territory, plus, I can pretend to have won it in an arm wrestle competition.
