Political news the last few days has been ruled by the revelation that Hillary Clinton was using her own personal email address to conduct national business while Secretary of State. Commentators from both sides of the aisle are gleefully giving their opinion of why she would do such a crazy thing. The Republicans are up in arms that someone in such a high level position can’t trust the ‘security of our nation’, but if the shoe (or iPhone) were on the other foot they would be the first to decry the very LACK of security of the nation. At the hands of the Democratic Party of course. Or vice versa. Depending on who’s doing the decrying.
Given the insane numbers of security breaches from both the government and private sectors lately, (hello Edward Snowdon and SONY Pictures) does it really matter what platform Clinton would choose to communicate via? Can the U.S. security departments wholeheartedly attest that their anti-theft parameters are impenetrable? Perhaps Hillary has learned more about how easily it is to crack into supposedly secure channels than people give her credit for. She was a former First Lady after all, and has weathered both political scandal (see Whitewater) and personal scandal (see Monica Lewinsky) on a public scale greater than anyone may ever have to in a lifetime. And not only was Hillary using her own email account she was actually running her own private email servers, which to me only proves this woman knows EXACTLY what she’s doing and why she’s doing it. In fact, I can see this as a future story arc on House Of Cards.
Her use of a personal email account doesn’t faze me at all. In fact, she has probably become extremely adept at switching up her passwords. I can imagine them now – ‘ilovebigwillie’, ‘kissmyassgeorgew’, ‘42ismynumber1’, ‘hillandbill4ever’ – too many fun things to choose from. And who knows – she may like shopping online for lingerie and doesn’t want anyone to know her panty size, or she may spend time messaging with her daughter on Facebook about her new baby. Because even though this broad is smart, and can run a major area of the government, she is still a human. And if she’s LOL’ing with James Carville over John Boehner’s tie, that’s her business.
