My girls grew up with Fisher-Price toys and so when I was asked to participate in a survey they were conducting I was only too happy to join in the fun.
After all, not only was Fisher-Price a huge part of my daughters’ childhood, it was part of mine and my husband’s too. In fact, my whole family has loved and played with Fisher-Price toys for years and *ahem* years now. When asked what toy spoke to me the most from the Fisher-Price line, I couldn’t help but say the Brilliant Basics Corn Popper.
This brightly coloured toy has been around since 1957!! How many toys can you think of that have stood the test of time like this? The Fisher-Price Corn Popper is a true classic. I even remember playing with one myself as a child (I am not as classic as the toy, so keep the peanut gallery comments to yourself).
In order to share with my readers, Fisher-Price was kind enough to send me one to review. I expected to share an anecdote or two with you, the fun of the toy and then the awesome giveaway of course, but something funny happened along the way.
And then this:
Both my girls, now 10 and 12, lit up when they saw this Fisher-Price Corn Popper sitting in my office. They were flooded with memories and I have to admit, I was flooded with a few of my own. I remember sitting their Fisher-Price bouncer in the bathroom so I could have a much-needed shower, or placing them in their Fisher-Price Exersaucer while I baked in the kitchen.
What struck me the most though, was how happy they were to see this toy. It was a connection to their younger years and a ton of great memories for them too!
From the Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium to the Brilliant Basics Rock-a-Stack to the Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Chair my girls grew up with the most-loved Fisher-Price toys from the very beginning. It wasn’t until one dropped in the house unexpectedly though that I could see the impact it had on them. Look at those faces? Too cute.
While, it was fun living through the nostalgia for the week but we’ve all agreed that this toy is best in the chubby little hands of their cousin. And so it continues, another Fisher-Price baby will laugh and wonder, and probably give his kids a Fisher-Price Corn Popper to play with one day.
In the spirit of giving though, I’m so excited to be giving one of the Fisher-Price Corn Poppers away to a reader of Life in Pleasantville. Open to Canadians only, this contest closes April 2nd, 2015 at 12am EST.
