We’re all about bright colours, pretty accessories, and sleek lines in the Crush and Covet round-up. It must be the change of seasons. Or maybe it’s because we all know that as women we can be feminine and feminist, powerful and soft, practical and whimsical. Nobody puts us a label on us we don’t choose. And today we choose singers and tech masquerading as jewellery and caffeine.
Robin Edwards: “You know how a song comes on the radio and you drop everything and sing and dance along? Right now it’s Elle King’s Ex’s And Oh’s. A delicious little ditty sung in a whiskey and bubble gum tinged voice with giddy lyrics and a catchy beat. It makes me want to spray my hair in a bouffant and break out the clam diggers and is kick-ass girl power galore. Want another reason to crush on Elle King? Google who her father is.”
Ashley MacInnis: “If there’s one thing you almost never see me without (other than mascara) it’s my iPhone 6. It’s almost an extension of my being. While I’m not currently in a position to splurge on something as frivolous as RINGLY, I’d be lying if I said it hasn’t been on my mind since I first heard about it! RINGLY is “smart” jewelry, or wearable tech, in the form of a cocktail ring. You simply install an app on your phone to keep up-to-the-minute on what’s happening without carrying your phone with you. BONUS: you can customize what notifications you receive with RINGLY – like if you want to avoid Twitter, Facebook and your email but you need to know when the kids are calling. Brilliant!”
Elaine Atkins: “I’ve been looking for the perfect red clutch for YEARS and I think I found it! The Ela Soulmate Classic Clutch in Lipstick (how fitting!) would be the perfect pop of colour with a little black dress – don’t you think?”
Katja Wulfers: “Our coffee maker died a few weeks ago; I’m still mourning. I’ve also gone all cowboy, old-school, MacGyverish and I’m pouring hot water over fresh grounds to make my life’s blood every morning. But this can’t go on. What if someone’s over who’s not partial to grounds at the bottom of their cup? Because I care about my guests — and not because I’m in love with this beautiful, red sports car of the coffee machine world — I’m drooling over the Illy Francis Francis X7.”
Kelli Catana: “I love this jacket from Roots Canada because it’s the perfect length and weight for that transitional weather, when it’s not quite cold enough to put on your parka but too cold to just wear a hoodie. The funnell neck gives it a unique look and the slim fit makes me think it would be incredibly flattering on. I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of this coat.”
