What do you get when you mix a wine so good you can’t stop at one glass, homemade guacamole, silk pillows, a chair large enough for two, and decadent dessert? You get plans for the weekend. Fun ones.
Now scram and enjoy your weekend. We know we will.
Laureen Farnam – I am a huge fan of Mexican cooking and I’ve always wanted an authentic Molcajete for my kitchen. I lived in Texas for years and why I didn’t just pick one up when I was there is beyond me! This morning the sudden urge to smash gorgeous, green, perfectly ripened avocados to a delicious pulp, in a bowl made out of volcanic rock returned with a vengeance and now I cannot stop thinking about how fun it would be to make my own spice blends. I know this Molcajete from Williams-Sonoma would look right at home on my countertop. Plus, let’s face it, Molcajete is really fun to say!
Kelly Williams – I love sleeping. A good nap is a thing of beauty and I made a purchase recently that ups the decadent factor ten-fold. I bought 100% natural mulberry silk pillowcases. Did you know that silk pillowcases are an anti-aging secret weapon? *Editor’s note: No; no, we did not, but now we want all the silk things.
100% silk in a charmeuse weave is soft and slippery which means that there’s much less friction on that delicate facial skin and you don’t end up ironing wrinkles into your face when your cheeks are smooshed into your pillow. Silk is also good for your hair because that smooth fabric allows it to glide across your pillow without catching or excess rubbing. I bought these coffee coloured pillowcases from Lilysilk and I am loving them.
Maija Craig – I’m a nomad at heart, but having 3 active kids means I’ve temporarily traded in the dream to move with the seasons for a two-story house in the suburbs. I’ve spent the past two years putting off making decisions about our house and not buying new furniture and generally revolting against the idea of staying put — with the exception of my kids’ rooms — because I always felt it was a temporary residence. No more. Now’s the time to enjoy it while we have it so we’re deep into selecting bathroom tile, paint colours, and turning our bedroom into an oasis and not the drop-anything-you-don’t-know-what-to-do-with room, including the bin of mismatched socks. I picked out this Pottery Barn chair and a half with ottoman; it’s the perfect place for bedtime stories and curling up on a weekend afternoon with a good book.
Nicole MacPherson – I love being in the kitchen, and upon receiving this Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker I had been crushing on, making my own ice cream has become an obsession. There are no fewer than three different kinds of ice cream in my freezer at any given time. Not only is it ridiculous fun to create my own flavour combinations, but it’s also economical. I don’t eat dairy and I’m now making non-dairy delights for a third of the price of what I would pay for in the grocery store. My family is thrilled with all the regular dairy ice cream I’m making, too. Anyone want to pop by for an old-fashioned ice cream social?
Editor’s note: Is that a trick question?
Dee Brun – I’m seriously crushing on this wine! Concha y Toro Winemaker’s Lot 148 Carmenère is so good that the one sample I had recently isn’t enough and I’m adding a few bottles to our collection. What makes this wine even more FABOOSH is its price point. It’s widely available at the LCBO here in Ontario and right now it’s on sale for $15.95. Stock up!
