This is the time of year where we’re all done. We’re done with wet feet from the snow melting inside the front door—Can no one stomp their boots outside? We’re done with layers of socks and long johns and woolie underwear. We’re done with staring at the same four walls and the piles of dishes that never disappear. And we’re especially done with being adults. We know warmer weather is on its way and we want out.
Jennifer Pitt – I crave my outside time, no matter what the season is; it reinvigorates me, and gives me purpose. I also love my alone time, and being able to get things done. In an effort to combine my outside time, my daughter’s swing set obsession, and my need for a home office, we had our rotted deck replaced at the end of last summer, and barely had time to enjoy it before the snow fell. This year, I am reimagining how we live outside, and I have fallen completely in love with the idea of an outdoor living room. I have been shopping around, and while this set from Home Loft Concepts on Wayfair.com is slightly (read: way) outside my budget, I don’t love it any less. Now, to talk my husband into it….
Sharon DeVellis – Remember when you were a kid and your teacher would give you a sticker for good behaviour? Or the dentist would give you one for not losing it when you got your first filling? When we were kids we got stickers for everything.
Then you grow up and realize there are no stickers ever even though you are rocking the whole adulting thing on a daily basis.
Well, I say bullsh*t to that. And so does PeanutParade on Etsy. Now you can get stickers that reward you for doing a damn fine job being the adult that you are. So put on your bra, put away some laundry, and get out there and be the best adulting adult you can be because, guess what? There’s a sticker for that.
Laureen Farnam – The weather has been positively spring like this week and that has me thinking about freeing my toes. After years of battling Plantar Fasciitis and finding ways to make my feet happier I have recently ripped my orthotics out of my sneakers and vowed never again. This may sound extreme and I know they can help many people, but for me, it seems my feet want sweet freedom – kind of like the rest of me, lately, now that I think about it. I have worn Birkenstocks for years and have recommended them to people, but they are a bit fussy for a “flip flop” and now it is time for something new. These Oofos sandals speak to me. They are amazingly comfortable and I can wear them to the beach without worrying about ruining them. This Sunset version is the one that I want. I mean, really. Is there anything better than a summer sunset?
Maija Craig – My husband picked up this sling pack for me 3 years ago (in a lovely turquoise colour) and it’s been one of my favourite travel accessories ever since. The last thing moms need is to be worrying about their purse when road tripping, hiking, traveling, etc… As soon as we’re ready to head out on our next adventure, I toss my wallet into this pack and with compartments for my phone, passports, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, water bottle and a few snacks, we’re ready to hit the road! I’ve also been known to take this on field trips, day trips to the water park and sugar shacks and anywhere else where I need to have a stash of stuff but want to keep my hands free.
Nicole MacPherson – I am dreaming of spring and gardening: planting flowers, digging in my garden, watching for little green shoots to poke up out of the earth. Sadly, I live in Calgary, which means that spring – reliable, non-snowy, frost-free spring – is still almost three months away. *insert sob here* But if I can’t have spring colours in my garden, at least I can have them on my person. That’s why I’m coveting this geranium sweater from Anthropologie. It’s warm enough to get me through to spring (and frankly, it’s Calgary, so I could feasibly wear it year-round) and I can enjoy spring flowers without worrying that they will die from frosty mornings.
