Don’t let the mid-November, 18C temperatures — at least in my part of the world — lull you into a false sense of security. This is simply Mother Nature’s way to distract us until the -20C sucker punch. She’s not as benevolent as the Disney movies would have us believe. But we’re wise to her over here, and we’re preparing ourselves for the big freeze of ’16. Winter is coming and that’s not just for the night watch or the king of the north. Related, who’s watched too much Netflix lately?
Kelly Williams – I bought this Aran Crafts sweater because I know full well that winter is coming and there’s nothing I can do about it. Well, nothing but buy a beautiful, cozy, 3/4 length wool sweater that is. I’ve worn it already on a few crisp mornings and I have to say, it was warm and comfy and so much prettier than my utilitarian fall coat. As the temperature drops, I think this sweater will become my go to item to fend off the chill. The added bit of Irish beauty it brings to my wardrobe is just a lovely bonus.
Jennifer Pitt – I loved winter as a kid, and now that I have a kid I love winter again, but during the in-between years winter and I were not friends. Now, I love playing with my daughter in the snow and the hours spent on a toboggan, and even how she “helps” me shovel the driveway. Even more than that, though, I love the comfort food that comes with winter: hearty soups and stews that really warm you up inside. The smell of a pot of stew on the stove or in my slow cooker makes me want to cuddle up with my daughter under a blanket and watch Frozen for the eleventy-billionth time. Here is my all-time favourite stew recipe; it takes a while to prep and cook, but trust me when I tell you it is worth the effort.
Candace Derickx – It’s all well and good to sell a product that benefits others but it has to be something people ACTUALLY want. I fell in love with these mittens at WE Day Family in Toronto and bought a pair for me and the girls. They’re fun and lighthearted, not to mention warm. Added bonus, every pair of mittens purchased gives an essential medical treatment to a child in a WE Village overseas, helping them stay healthy so they never have to miss a day of school. So I’m feeling pretty darn good about these mittens thankyouverymuch.
Dawn Trudeau – I am all pooled out for this year … just kidding! I could swim 12 months out of the year, I am a water sign. Too bad the water is a tad chilly come November. That’s ok, I found my perfect solution… this Serenity Hot Tub 6000 will do quite nicely. I can just imagine a day out on the trails this winter and an evening relaxing and warming up in this dream. What a perfect world it would be. Oh, and wine… now it’s perfect.
Glynis Ratcliffe – I hate winter. Well, I enjoy it when I’m warm and cozy inside with a hot chocolate or mulled wine in my hands, but when you have problems with circulation (I have a condition called Raynaud’s) hanging out in the freezing cold isn’t high on the priority list. The problem? I have a kid to walk to and from school every single day, no matter how cold it is. Therefore, I am coveting this incredibly warm and stylish parka from The North Face right now! Gimme gimme.
