It’s a New Year! And a new approach to life and a new you and a new us!
We’re all — you and us — pretty great the way we are. You won’t find the writers here going on about how to make it all better, or new, or trying to revolutionize anyone’s lives. We’re all doing our best, and while we can all tweak a thing or two every once in a while, what sometimes works best is sitting around with girlfriends, bouncing ideas off each other or just talking what ifs. And today we have some what ifs for you, otherwise known as our latest crop of crushes.
Gwen Leron – Over the holidays, I had the chance to finally sit down and watch Parts Unknown on CNN. This show has been on the air since 2013 and I have had it on my list of things to check out since that time. WHY DID I WAIT THIS LONG? I love it. I’m a sucker for travel shows but even more so when there is food involved. Parts Unknown is what I’m currently crushing on.
Chef, author, and TV personality, Anthony Bourdain travels the world and shows us things we may not experience if we were regular tourists. He samples food, shows us the dishes these locations are known for, gives us some history on the location, and spends time with locals to give us insight into the culture. I’ve only seen a few episodes so far but I’m hooked.
The bright side about waiting almost 3 years to watch it? I have 3 years worth of episodes to now catch up on!
Leslie Foster – My feet are freezing all the time. I went to the usual shoe stores and over the course of a couple of weeks purchased 3 pairs of slippers, each one returned. They looked warm, they were all somewhat stylish, but after wearing them for two hours, I still had cold feet. I purchased Hut Booties from MEC and now I have happy feet! They’re like little sleeping bags for you tootsies. And boy, are they (sort of) stylish!
Anne Radcliffe – A brand spanking new GE stainless steel dishwasher! In fact, I already own this one. But unfortunately it’s sitting in my living room, sad and uninstalled. What I really covet is someone to come hook it up for me, which might take until next Saturday or later, so until then my living room is sporting the appliance decor chic look. And for now I’m doing dishes by hand.
Candace Derickx – 99% of the time, my hair is sad and lifeless. The only time I really love my hair is after a beach day but I don’t see as many of those as I’d like to. I recently discovered Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray though and now I can have beach hair without the beach. Added bonus: Comes with a beachy smell.
Katja Wulfers – There is no reason I need this poster of Rohan Riding Stables Vacation. It’s not typical grown-ass woman home decor and it’s all kinds of nerdy, but because I am a grown-ass woman who chooses to decorate her home however she likes, I’ll embrace my inner Lord of the Rings nerd, who has never been silenced anyway, and decide where I want this to hang. Also, I love horses and the Rohirrim know about riding. We are the Rohirrim. We ride.
