The great thing about sharing our crushes with you, is that we can also highlight companies that do good; whether it’s by giving back, or by using quality products, or sourcing their materials ethically and using fair trade practises. There are many brands who care enough to make smart choices and we have the luxury of being able to choose who we do business with. So, happy crushing and shopping with people whose values mirror yours.
Robin Edwards – As many know, I adore TOMS and their One For One® philosophy and I love it when they introduce new designs. This summer, trade in your classic TOMS Argentinian-style alpargatas slip-ons for one of their newest warm weather styles – including flip flops, sandals and wedges. This black woven diamond strappy number will be a summer wardrobe staple – and will go with just about everything! To see more styles, check out www.TOMS.ca online as well as TOMS retailers. As always, for each pair purchased, TOMS will make a donation in kind to a needy person. It’s what I like to call “Guilt-Free Shopping!”
Laureen Farnam – Land’s End has never let me down. It always feels good when we invest in a product or company that absolutely lives up to its reputation, doesn’t it? I am of Scottish decent and I don’t tan, I burn. The dangerous, bad for your health kind of burn that we’re warned about every year around this time. Skin Cancer doesn’t care if you ‘just forgot that one time’ to wear an appropriate SPF for the activity du jour. With this in mind and in the interest of leading by example this summer I am buying this swim rash guard and I won’t have to worry as much about my shoulders turning crisp. It’s stylish, adjustable, works on water and land, has a Skin Cancer Foundation recommendation, and I know it will be made to last.
Kelly Williams – I definitely have a bit of a hippy-dippy tree hugger streak in me and I often attempt to make my own versions of household cleaners, air fresheners, and other personal care products. I am currently crushing on my Aura Cacia Tea Tree Essential Oil not only because Tea Tree Oil has effective anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-septic qualities, but also because I support the philosophy and business practices of the Aura Cacia company. Now I get a double dose of goodness when I pass the home-made hand sanitizer to my kids; I know they are getting a non-toxic version of a frequently used product, and that I have put my money where my mouth is in support a company whose beliefs match my own. It’s all good.
Dee Brun – With my trip to Mexico coming up next week I am crushing on this Indagare beach bag from ShopLatitude!!! It’s perfect for carrying around all the beach essentials and it’s pretty. I LUV it!
Katja Wulfers – A friend of mine recently posted the photo of a necklace she bought, and besides being like a magpie and being attracted to all things shiny, I especially loved that the company she bought her necklace from — Just One — sources their goods from the craftsmen and women who make them. I went browsing and found a bracelet to add to my collection; it’s pretty and affordable and made by former child soldiers who are working towards a better future. That’s a worthy crush on all counts.
