Pool Party Cake

By //  by Candace Sampson

I love baking....when it doesn't have to look pretty. When I want something that looks pretty, I go to the experts. For example, when I want amazing decorated cookies, I use my friends business, A Couple of Squares. When I want cookies that taste delicious but don't have to be all Martha perfect, I bake my own. I simply don't have the patience to make it look pretty. Basic cakes, pies, cookies, I'm all over, but anything that requires patience and skill....not so much. That's why I laugh …

Very Berry Sangria

By //  by Candace Sampson

This is the second sangria recipe that I decided is worthy of you. Remember the first one? The Loosey Goosey Boozy Boozy Sangria? Original name, right? Well this one is equally as inventive. It's the Very Berry Sangria. Please, for the love of good sangria, do not confuse it with that Boone's crap you can buy at the liquor store. *shiver* THAT is not sangria. If you're ever in a bind and must buy sangria bottled make sure it's Real Sangria. But if you visit here regularly, you know that …

Grilled Pineapple Sundaes

By //  by Candace Sampson

I'm a sucker for sweets. When I saw this recipe for Grilled Pineapple Sundaes with Rum Butter Sauce, I was pretty much done in. I whipped up my own homemade Vanilla Ice Cream and followed the directions. It was soooo yummy. Related, Rum Butter Sauce, may be addictive. I plan to use it for grilled bananas, crepes, baked apples, apple crumble pie, with brownies, as a drink...I kid, I kid. That would be silly. Grilled Pineapple Sundaes with Rum Butter Sauce 1 pineapple 2 cups (500 mL) …

White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake

By //  by Candace Sampson

Recently I was invited to the opening of a new restaurant in Ottawa. Obviously, someone has finally taken note of my fine culinary skills *cough cough*. I'm kidding. Thankfully, someone did take note of my fine culinary taste buds. I asked The Pine's executive chef, Luc Doiron, if he'd share one of his recipes with my readers and he very graciously agreed. I can't wait to make this and then lock myself in a room to eat it. What? It's looks too good to share. White Chocolate and …

Vietnamese Steak Sandwiches

By //  by Candace Sampson

I found this recipe a few years ago in one of my Everyday Food mags. It's become a family favorite. When we can't get to the BBQ, we cook the flank steak in a very hot iron skillet. Always delicious Vietnamese Steak Sandwiches 1 garlic clove, minced 1 teaspoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon red-pepper flakes 1 tablespoon rice vinegar 1 tablespoon water 2 carrots, grated 2 scallions, thinly sliced 1/2 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves 4 hero rolls 1 pound sliced Flank Steak with Lime …
