Eton Mess

If you've never had Eton Mess for dessert, you're missing out. It's a delicious combination of fresh berries, meringue and whipped cream. It's easy to make and impressive to serve. Even if you're not a kitchen person, this is practically no fail. The best part is most of it can be prepared ahead of time! Eton Mess 4 6 ounce packages of strawberries (hulled and quartered) or raspberries or combination of both 1 cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 …

By //  by Candace Sampson 8 Comments

Oh Ina, I love you so much, but I had to chuckle this morning when making these. Here's the quote from the book that made me grin "with the addition of whole-wheat flour and oatmeal (to give it texture), pure maple syrup (to give it sweetness) and buttermilk (to make it lower in fat)." What? Did that say lower in fat? Thank heavens you added that buttermilk to make it lower in fat then because I had to reread the recipe three times to make sure it actually was calling for a pound of butter. A …

Hot Fudge Pudding 1 cup all-purpose flour 2/3 cup granulated sugar 2 tsps baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa 1/2 cup whole milk 2 tbsps melted …

Snowmen Kisses

By //  by Candace Sampson 1 Comment

Okay, they're not really Snowmen Kisses, it's meringue, but we're going with a theme here, so stick with me. Meringue has to be one of the cheapest, easiest and most delicious baked goods you can make. It also makes a great gift during the holidays. Snowmen Kisses 5 large egg whites 1 cup sugar 1/4 tsp cream of tartar 1/2 tsp vanilla Line two large sheet pans with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees F. In an electric mixer beat egg whites and cream of tartar for 30 …
