On Saturday, November 19th, my littlest girl and I will kick off the season by attending the CF Rideau Centre Breakfast with Santa. This heartwarming event, taking place at the Shaw Centre, is being brought to Ottawa families thanks to a partnership between Easter Seals Ontario and the CF Rideau Centre.
During the event, children will be given the opportunity to meet Santa, without waiting in shopping mall lines and receive a professional photo to take home. A delicious breakfast will be served followed by a dynamic fashion show featuring the latest styles, exclusive to the CF Rideau Centre.
What makes this morning especially meaningful is that all funds raised through the event, will be used to provide financial assistance to children and youth requiring essential mobility equipment.
Thanks to Easter Seals and the CF Rideau Centre all in attendance will get to enjoy many well-loved holiday traditions, including the warm feelings that result from giving to those in need.
For 93 years, Easter Seals of Ontario has helped to enhance the lives of children with physical disabilities. “Thanks to our generous donors, we continue to offer programs that allow kids to experience freedom, independence and a sense of accomplishment. For families, Easter Seals is somewhere to turn for help when they need it. We assist families with the purchase of costly mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, porch lifts and ramps, as well as communication devices, toileting aids and bathing equipment. Easter Seals also helps by providing summer camp, offering post-secondary scholarships, providing access to information, resources, public education and awareness.”
Jacob, age 14, and his mother Clare, cannot say enough positive things about Easter Seals Ontario and what this organization has done for them. Jacob was born with cerebral palsy and severe scoliosis. After fostering Jacob from the age of 13 months, Clare decided to adopt him and says, “It was the best thing she has ever done.”
Clare gives an enormous amount of credit to Easter Seals Ontario for shaping the happy, confident boy Jacob is today. “We just love them all to death. Through Easter Seals Jacob has made friends, learned to ski, gone to camp and attended events and programs which would never have been possible otherwise. Through the connections he has made, Jacob now feels like a regular kid and part of a community.”
When asked by Clare if he would participate in the fashion show component of the CF Rideau Centre Breakfast with Santa, Jacob, now the Ottawa Regional Easter Seals Ambassador, did not hesitate. “Mom, I would do anything for Easter Seals.”
We cannot wait to see Jacob take the stage. My daughter is so excited that she might even wear a party dress!
Another bonus, it appears that attendance might also be a sure way to stay on Santa’s good list. When Santa was asked how he felt about his role in the fun he responded, “I consider it an honour and a privilege to participate in the CF Rideau Centre Breakfast with Santa fundraising event with Easter Seals Ontario. Children and young adults with special needs and their families deserve the full support of their community to continue to thrive as individuals.”
Hope to see you there and thank you Easter Seals Ontario and the CF Rideau Centre for reminding us of what it is really all about.
