After a revealing Facebook conversation recently, I’ve learned there are two kinds of people in the world: the kind who carry around 20 tubes of lipstick; and those who hold on to 6 year-old lip gloss and a few tubes of lip balm. There is no middle ground apparently. Take a guess at who sits where on the spectrum after reading about our latest crushes.
Candace Sampson – At any given time, I own no less than twenty different shades of lipstick, ten of which are likely floating around on the bottom of my purse, for lip emergencies obviously. I’m currently in love with Caryl Baker Visage lipsticks that contain organic shea butter and avocado oil to keep my lips from drying out while delivering brilliant, long-lasting colour. To make things even better, from May 1st to 8th, when I purchase a Caryl Baker Lipstick, $1 will be donated to Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada. So in addition to stocking up on a ton of fun colours, my lipstick obsession is helping a good cause. My work here is done. *throws cape over shoulder*
Katja Wulfers – My brother, niece, and son are avid cyclists. The kind who do multi-day treks with 1200 meter climbs while wearing cycling gear. I don’t even own a bike, if you don’t count my son’s old mountain bike that’s seen too many homemade jumps and is two sizes too small for me. This has to change. I’m not planning to ride a section of the Tour de France any time soon—I rode one of those bikes in the Toronto Triathlon last year and there are still marks on my ass—and a bike to tour around town, maybe meet friends for coffee, or go to the store to stock up on cheese suits me well. The point is, it needs to be fun. I already follow Schwinn on Instagram and recently noticed their Debutante and Sprite models. Either one will do for the job required, and the bonus is they come in my favourite colour.
Elaine Atkins – I’m generally a very practical person but there is the odd occasion where I feel like I NEED something I probably won’t use. In this case it’s a purse that can also act as a piece of art…so when it’s art it’s ok, right? Check out this AMAZING purse designed by local designer Minling Pan!
It’s a nail polish clutch! And it’s an actual purse!! It retails for $185 and comes in 10 colours ranging from pastels to metallics. Fully lined, it’s actually quite practical too! Fitting all your essentials including your smart phone. I would LOVE to have all of these on display along with my beauty products – they are such show pieces!
Nicole MacPherson – When I was recently in Maui, I saw a woman wearing a shirt that said “More Dharma Less Drama” and I immediately accosted her to find out where she found such a treasure. My Inner Fire has unique and gorgeous yoga wear, and I’m crushing on this Shake Your Asana sweatshirt. Honorary mention: the shirt reading I’m Just Here For The Savasana.
Laureen Farnam – When I saw this cute Beaver Pencil Sharpener and his pensive little hands I felt an instant need for him to come and live on my desk. Just look at this gorgeous piece of practical art and design from Rodrigo Torres. Sure, at first glance it’s simply an adorable office accessory, but when you take a closer look, the design details shine through. The simplistic design would fit in perfectly on my recently tidied desk and I like to think his sleekness would help me keep it that way. I love that it catches pencil shavings (less mess!) and that it’s heavy enough to double as a paperweight. My kids agree, short of making Baby Beaver’s nummy, gnawing noises from “Peep and the Big Wide World”, Kastor couldn’t be more perfect.
