Last week we went out for dinner and tried to choose the best option possible for fast food. We settled in on Thai. How bad can it be right? Rice noodles, chicken, veggies — sounds perfect. Except it wasn’t. Later that night, I decided to look up nutritional content on Thai Express Pad Thai. Let’s just say we are NEVER going back there again.
And so the week continued to go like that with my eye being drawn to post after post about heart health. It’s kind of a hot topic in this house right now since my husband had his heart attack. Sodium though seems to be the sneakiest culprit out there and obviously many of us haven’t got a clue how much we’re getting.
We’ve been having lots of discussions lately with our kids about food colouring. We are trying to encourage them to avoid them at all costs in things like Slush Puppies, Kool-Aid and candy. I found this article interesting that suggests that colours have flavour. Can you taste the difference between a blue M&M and a red one?
I have no idea how I tripped on this but I want to tuck it away for when my girls are older.
This is an interesting chart from Feministing about how working moms devote more time to childcare than they did in the 60s. Bet you didn’t see that one coming.
The last couple of years I’ve been asking myself a lot if I really need that thing-a-ma-jig. Our society is obsessed with stuff. This article that appeared in last Sunday’s New York Times hit a nerve with many. Could you live with as little at this man does?
Finally, just to end it on a lighter note. I cracked up at some of these would-be inventions.
Now get out of here and go drink your green beer! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
