Summer Nights

The long weekend in May kicks off the summer season and I don’t know about you, but I am more ready for summer than I’ve ever been. It’s time for flip flops, sundresses, barbecues, pool parties, sangria and summer music.

There is lots of music that define the summer season and I’ve put a few here before on the song of the day like, Love is Like a Heatwave, Boys of Summer, Sunny Days, or Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.

You can find my Pinterest board with all the Songs of Summer here.

In the meantime, I’m adding Summer Nights from Grease to the playlist. Who knows all the words? I do :)

I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues

Sometimes doing the math on how old I was when a song was released it just depressing. Take, I Guess That’s Why They Call it The Blues, for example. This song by Elton John was released in 1983. That’s 30 years ago for the mathematically-challenged. Thirty freaking years!

I was 13 at the time and loaded with teenage angst. I was in love with being in love and this song played to every emotion I had about what “real” love was supposed to be like. By the time this song was on a regular rotation on the radio, MuchMusic had just started and I was glued to my television hoping this video or Electric Avenue would play.

Whatever – Kay

Living with tweens means that you hear their music playing all the time. And sometimes, a song just sticks with you, and plays over and over in your head all day, like this one from Kay, Whatever. The video is a little annoying but maybe that’s just the over 40 in me. Also, the girl is Canadian and I love seeing young Canadian talent like this, don’t you?

Anyway, if you don’t want to be irritated by the video just go on over and browse your Facebook page while this song plays. It has great attitude to it.

And I need a little attitude to sing along with today. You?

Bye Bye Bye

Bye Bye Bye from N’Sync is on my mind this week and not because I’m pining for boy bands or anything like my friend Kellidaisy does.  Nope, I can’t get the song out of my head because the snow is melting here and I just keep singing ……

I know that I can’t take no more
It ain’t no lie
I wanna see you out that door
Baby, bye, bye, bye

It’s hard to believe it’s Easter weekend with all the snow in my yard. Only the dog is truly enjoying it. And she’s not very bright anyway.

bye bye bye

So with every drip, drip, drip off my roof I’m singing Bye, Bye, Bye.

What about you? Will the Easter Bunny be wearing snow shoes to get to you or do you have greener pastures already?

Whiskey In the Jar

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Whiskey in the Jar is the perfect song to wrap up the week.

But first, a toast in keeping with the spirit of the day and all :)

When we drink, we get drunk.
When we get drunk, we fall asleep.
When we fall asleep, we commit no sin.
When we commit no sin, we go to heaven.
So, let’s all get drunk, and go to heaven!

Black Velvet Band

You haven’t lived until you’ve placed your arms around the person on either side of you in the pub and swayed back and forth singing, Black Velvet Band. That’s livin’ my friends.

While the Irish Rovers were all originally from Ireland, they are actually a Canadian band. Hooray for Canada!

So before the song, I raise my virtual glass (okay there’s nothing virtual about it) to you in a toast:

May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you’re dead.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

I love Christmas, Easter is fun, Thanksgiving is great for family, and I can even be prodded to enjoy Halloween if I have to, but there is no other holiday all year quite like St. Patrick’s Day. Apparently, it all began with this guy, St. Patrick in Ireland, and there’s some definite religious aspect to it, but I really don’t care too much about all that. If you’re so inclined go read all about it, I’ll be over here with my green beer.

St. Patrick’s Day to me has been and always will be a time to raise a glass, sing Irish songs with your friends and Erin Go Braghless or something like that. It’s FUN!! And the one day of the year we’re all Irish. So, leading up to St. Paddy’s Day, I’m going to share some pub-worthy songs with you, starting with the most famous sons of Ireland, U2.

This song still gives me chills.

It was filmed at Red Rocks, which in just a little trivia for you, is also where Mumford & Sons filmed the video for I Will Wait.

Now, get your Irish up and enjoy the week leading up to the happiest day of the year.

50 Ways to Leave Your Lover

There are 50 ways to leave your lover? More like a 150, but who am I to split hairs with Paul Simon.

Before you turn into Sherlock Holmes and start looking for signs of my marriage breaking down…..it’s not. The posting of this song is not meant as a signal that there is trouble in Pleasantville. Nope…..things are hunky dory over here.

I was 6 when this song came out in 1975 and I remember belting out all the lyrics…..with attitude.

You Can’t Stop the Beat

I asked the question earlier on Twitter. What kind of music day is it? What is the soundtrack of my life playing today? Rock, country, hip-hop? None of the above.

Today is a showtune kind of day baby! Today is calling for upbeat and flashy. It’s Friday, everyone I love is safe and happy, I have great friends visiting tomorrow, I’m feeling blessed — there’s really no other song that will do. So, I’m off to run and clean my house and get groceries and will be playing the music loud and grinning from ear to ear all day. Have a great weekend everyone!

First the whole song:

And then a little clip, because John Travolta as Edna just cracks me up.

Paradise By The Dashboard Light

I’m off working on another post right now on YummyMummyClub and I thought, “You know what this day needs?”. Music. This day DEFINITELY needs music. So I flipped over to my playlist and turned to my rock selections. And you know what else this day needs? It needs a little Meatloaf.

If you don’t know every single word to this song than you are too young to be hanging out here. Go on now, go find some young’uns website to hang out on before I tell your mother.
