Sunday Bloody Sunday

I love Christmas, Easter is fun, Thanksgiving is great for family, and I can even be prodded to enjoy Halloween if I have to, but there is no other holiday all year quite like St. Patrick’s Day. Apparently, it all began with this guy, St. Patrick in Ireland, and there’s some definite religious aspect to it, but I really don’t care too much about all that. If you’re so inclined go read all about it, I’ll be over here with my green beer.

St. Patrick’s Day to me has been and always will be a time to raise a glass, sing Irish songs with your friends and Erin Go Braghless or something like that. It’s FUN!! And the one day of the year we’re all Irish. So, leading up to St. Paddy’s Day, I’m going to share some pub-worthy songs with you, starting with the most famous sons of Ireland, U2.

This song still gives me chills.

It was filmed at Red Rocks, which in just a little trivia for you, is also where Mumford & Sons filmed the video for I Will Wait.

Now, get your Irish up and enjoy the week leading up to the happiest day of the year.

50 Ways to Leave Your Lover

There are 50 ways to leave your lover? More like a 150, but who am I to split hairs with Paul Simon.

Before you turn into Sherlock Holmes and start looking for signs of my marriage breaking down…..it’s not. The posting of this song is not meant as a signal that there is trouble in Pleasantville. Nope…..things are hunky dory over here.

I was 6 when this song came out in 1975 and I remember belting out all the lyrics…..with attitude.

You Can’t Stop the Beat

I asked the question earlier on Twitter. What kind of music day is it? What is the soundtrack of my life playing today? Rock, country, hip-hop? None of the above.

Today is a showtune kind of day baby! Today is calling for upbeat and flashy. It’s Friday, everyone I love is safe and happy, I have great friends visiting tomorrow, I’m feeling blessed — there’s really no other song that will do. So, I’m off to run and clean my house and get groceries and will be playing the music loud and grinning from ear to ear all day. Have a great weekend everyone!

First the whole song:

And then a little clip, because John Travolta as Edna just cracks me up.

Paradise By The Dashboard Light

I’m off working on another post right now on YummyMummyClub and I thought, “You know what this day needs?”. Music. This day DEFINITELY needs music. So I flipped over to my playlist and turned to my rock selections. And you know what else this day needs? It needs a little Meatloaf.

If you don’t know every single word to this song than you are too young to be hanging out here. Go on now, go find some young’uns website to hang out on before I tell your mother.

Rico Suave

By Candace Derickx

Last night I commented on Twitter that I went to tell someone how old I was and I couldn’t remember if I was 42 or 43. Then Chris from Canadian Dad commented that he thought I was 24. *eye roll* How very smooth of you Chris, in fact, how very Rico Suave of you. And so today’s song of the day goes out to Chris for throwing out a few laughs last night and being a good sport. Now listen to this song and don’t forget to rrrroll your R’s.

Also, just for added fun, I thought I’d share with you my fashion influence in 1991. Can you guess who? Excuse me Miss, Rico called and he wants his jacket back.

Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’

Why this song today? Because it’s almost Valentine’s Day and this is your PSA to get your lovin’, touchin’ and squeezin’ on. Plus it’s just a damn good song. On a side note, I’d totally wear Steve Perry’s outfit from this video.

That’s Amore

By Candace Derickx

You know what was a romantic movie? Moonstruck! Cher was brilliant and even, Nicolas Cage was great in it, and that’s saying a lot. It still makes my heart go pitty-pat thinking of it.

It also introduced me to the song That’s Amore. And for me it was truly amore. This song was on my Wedding CD that we gave to guests and remains one of my favourite songs today.

Inner Ninja

My ten year old asked me to download this song onto her iThing today and I happily complied. I love it! So, now of course, it’s on my iThing too. I’m hip, I’m happening…….not buying it? Fine. This song is super fun though, and today feels like a good day to bring out my Inner Ninja.

Bad Reputation

We all have a little bit of bad-ass in us. Sometimes I want to rename this site Life in Hell’s Kitchen and blog about deep-fried food and how much people annoy me. See how edgy I am? I am outta control I tell you. Anyway, after I have that little fantasy I snap back to reality because in the end I want you to like me. I have people pleasing issues. What can I say?

But when I want to feel a little hard-core without the consequences of writing a post that would haunt me forever, I turn to music — and this song my Joan Jett & The Blackhearts fits the bill nicely, er, I mean badly. Gah! I just can’t get this bad-ass thing down pat.

Songs for Blue Monday

Hey it’s Blue Monday, so might as well go with the theme. Here’s a few “blue” songs for you. Did I miss any?

Also, in a side note, that’s a hell of a long cord Neil has on his microphone. How times have changed.
