High school brought about some big changes in my life, not least of which was an introduction to types of music I’d never heard before, like Punk and Ska. While I enjoyed some Punk music, I really fell in love with Ska. This song from The English Beat brings back a flood of memories from Grade 9. Have I mentioned I love the Eighties?

OMG I forgot about this song…huge flood of memories when I listened. My BFF in high school had a boyfriend in a “punk/ska” band and she and I were their only groupies….so fun.
Susie, did you grow up in London? We must have traveled in the same circles
Yes I did and I have no doubt we watched the bands at Call The Office….
We will have to reminisce over sangria at our mutual friend’s house next time I’m there
One of my faves! I was a huge Specials and English Beat fan back in the day. Bouncing in my seat here. Thanks for sharing!
Isn’t this a great song? Love it.
I remember doing a paper in University about the Teddy Boys and the Mods and learning something about the Jamaican roots of ska and punk which continues to re-surface through new generations. I love it too – there’s just something about the beat! Thinking about pairing it with that Sangria recipe while the heat is still around and I can pretend I’m actually IN Jamaica! Check out this link about the history of ska – it’s not bad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ska
